I Confess, I Am A Scent-A-Holic

I have always loved scents. This is Chai fresh out of the pot. I think the nose and how it works is a fascinating thing. When I first ventured into the soap making addiction I scented with a few Essential Oils.

Ok, maybe more than a few Essential Oils.

I joined a few soap making forums. I sold soap in a few craft shows. Everywhere I looked people were talking about scents. On the forums fragrance oil suppliers were advertising the latest popular fragrances. At my craft shows at least one person would come up to me and ask "Do you have ****** scent." I have very little will power. I had to try this blend, then this blend.....Before I knew it I was carrying over 70 different scents of soaps.

The past few years I have been trying to cut back and just carry the best sellers, and my personal favorites. It has been a hard job, but I am down to only 40 different scents.

My biggest problem now is what do you do with all the bottles?

I have great suppliers that ship with great care. Scent Oils are best kept in dark glass to protect them from the light and other elements. I have enough dark bottles to transfer any oils I get in larger containers. Does anyone need any 2, 4, 8, and 16ounce bottles?

Ummm, yum, Kauai Ginger Blossom.

  3. If I were still in New Mexico, I'd say: Ship 'em on over! I know a few people there who are into building Earth Ships and glass bottles are always very welcome. Loved your post, makes me feel like I'm not alone when it comes to collecting scents. It's a hard addiction to beat :)

  4. I really enjoyed this post... sneaking a peak into your drying racks... your scent store... if I were closer I think I may take you up on that offer of bottles. Could you make a product to use them up? Like body oil? Nice moulds! xo Jen

  5. I keep my bottles and re-use them when I get oils from a supplier that ships in plastic. However, I have an enormous stockpile right now that I need to clean out! Have to order more caps for them, but the glass cleans out nicely with a soak in hot salt water, followed by a trip through the dishwasher. :)

  7. Oh Cocobong, if we only knew what we were getting into that first time we made soap. Ahh, it was so cool, now if I just add a little color and scent, and an addiction was born.

Jen, I started making soap first and then added more products as people asked for them. Now that I have lotion, butters, balms, sugar scrubs, sprays, and serums I know that....I only like making soap. :) If I have to I will recycle them at our recycle center.

Teh Tarik Drinker, You are funny! I really like your blog! :)

Amy, those are all clean, I have a bunch of dirty ones also. I don't get too much in plastic but I am planning on buying more EO's in bulk so I will be needing some of them, just not all of them.

Hi Roni, My whole house smells wonderful, and my laundry as we use all the scraps grated up for clothes soap.
